I’ve was on the water a good amount last week. A corporate charter and a couple sails with friends, all under beautiful, if windy conditions. Lots of seals and sea lions, some harbor porpoises, one whale, and many pelicans. I wish is was easier to get pictures of all the sea life while sailing a boat, but I have yet to master it. But one person did manage to catch a whale sounding on video.
The first sail was with a new friend, and one I had never sailed with before, so we kept it mellow. We sailed out of Richardson Bay and out to Alcatraz, around Angel Island, and then back home on Zara, a Beneteau First 310.
For the coroporate charter, we left Sausalito, and picked up passengers at Pier 1.5 in SF on Vela Mare, a Seawind 1160 catamaran. We then sailed down to the ballpark and into McCovey Cove, then out past Alcatraz, and behind Angel Island, and then back to Pier 1.5 to drop off passengers. Then we motored back to Sausalito in heavy wind and big chop, but motoring did allow me a little more freedom to take pictures.
Then the second sail with friends was on Hangar 1, a Beneteau 37. We had no plan for the sail, so we just went wherever wind and whim took us. We saw a whale by the Gate, had some exciting times dodging fishing boats that seemed to have no knowledge of the rules of the road, and generally had a great time.
